How It all started.

I found myself pregnant at 20 years old. As a single mom, pregnant at 20, I was worried about how I would care for my child on my own. During my pregnancy, I found out there was not to many resources out there for mothers, especially single moms. That made things a bit more stressful. I had my son five weeks early with no birth plan in place and not being fully ready. I had an infant son who was premature and now a single mother being pushed out into the world of motherhood not knowing what to do. Thankfully my parents took me in and let me stay with them for a few weeks. I found out that breastfeeding was hard because my son wouldn't latch on, he had jaundice so he had to go back into the hospital for a few days, I had a hard time getting him to gain weight, we couldn't get a sleep schedule down and I was completely exhausted. Not to mention, all that took a toll on my mental state and postpartum depression came down on me full force like a heavy log being thrown into the lake. I had nothing else I could do but lean on my support system. My son is now 14, with education that I have inquired through the years and support along the way he has thrived tremendously, and I have also.

But, it then had me thinking, what if I didn't have that support system? What would be different if I had the education I needed to help in the first few weeks of being a new mother? There are some who don't have that support system or just want a little extra support. Others want that educational support to grow knowledge in parenthood. That is why I started this business. I want to help other parents to become educated, mothers to have healthy postnatal bodies, stress free, and successful at being parents.

I also know from experience that the first few weeks of coming home with your infant can be stressful but also special. That is when you start the bond and your routines, that is why I help virtually because I want you to bond with your baby and family without having a stranger in your home but still receive the support you need. Raising children does take a village sometimes and I would love to be part of your village.

What are the benefits of a virtual postpartum doula?

There as so many benefits of having a virtual postpartum doula. A doula is trained and certified in assisting you educationally, emotionally, and collaborate with you to self advocate and become confident in all aspects of parenthood. Some doulas come into your home and they either end up emotionally invested in your infant, become to busy in other things around them they may neglect your emotions, or they will end up advocating for you which won't help your confidence in the end. A doula should be invested in you, your physical and emotional wellbeing, plus educate you to succeed. As a virtual postpartum doula I can focus on the emotional aspect of your health, help you educate without distractions, and help you be the best advocate for yourself.
